Fact over fiction. Calm over panic. Community over individual.
Getting the Facts
Find your facts at the CDC and WHO websites.
Check-in daily but make sure you unplug and don’t get lost in the details.
Remember people with cancer are at a higher risk of infection from Coronavirus due to a compromised immune system.
COVID-19 is not the flu or a cold. It is much more fatal. Although your personal risk may appear low, the systemic risk of our healthcare system is high. No one is immune.
Remember - important items to consider in light of COVID-19
If you feel sick, stay home. Even if it is just a little sick. Most common symptoms are fever, cough, shortness of breath. CALL your healthcare provider before going into the clinic.
Wash your hands (every hour). 20 second wash with soap.
Avoid touching your face. This is so hard for everyone but important.
Clean surfaces (many times per day). Phones, countertops, anything touched.
Buy what is essential for 2 weeks. Leave some for others.
Think of your community. Consider friend’s who are undergoing chemo, ill, or elderly. See if they need help gathering their essentials.
Order groceries online. Wash your hands after they are delivered.
And most importantly, Social Distance.
We all know this term by now. And the time to start social distancing is NOW. No one is immune. No one is immune.
Social distancing helps save lives of at-risk people, your own family, and people in your community…and you. If you do not need to go out for something critical, don’t go out. If you do go out, stay 6 feet away from people. We know it all feels scary and strange but it is a form solidarity. And solidarity is a beautiful thing. We all get to start saving lives today. That is something we can control - when it all feels so out of control. Send extra love and encourage one another, even if it’s from afar.
